What do you like about your job and the company?

Every day 1000's of people take a ride on our trains in Sydney. Our trains, for the Sydney Metro, are driverless. I get to spend time with our own engineering team, our Warranty Teams as well as the customer to make sure we are all in alignment on the day-to-day activities, ensuring a high reliability and availability.

Greatest achievements

I was the Project Validation Manager for the biggest railway project in history - in 2013. I walked in as a very experienced Rolling Stock engineer, but walked out a specialist in many fields.

We are always facing many challenges at work, some of them are easy, some of them are difficult. The difficult challenge requires us putting more energy and effort in many aspects. We need to ask for cooperation from different teams in different functions, various locations and even different businesses. We need to break a complex challenge into small cases and solve the issue, one by one and step by step. We need to adjust the plans from time to time, find the most important and urgent task, leading the way to the ultimate target. We need to motivate the whole team especially in most difficult situations. We need to be patient, be diligent, be resourceful, be positive and stick to the true value. With all these small pieces done, everyone will definitely grow to a new level.

For me, being passionate about what we do provides the energy to work towards our goals and achieve our dreams. Passion fosters creativity, enabling us to develop better ideas and solutions, which in turn help solve problems. It encourages us to focus on tasks and keep going without feeling overwhelmed. Passion also drives continuous learning of new technologies and services that can simplify or better manage tasks. Additionally, it promotes collaboration, as it encourages us to work with others and share ideas, leading to a more collaborative workplace.

Everyone has something to offer. Each person comes with a depth of perspective, experience and knowledge, so it is always important to stay curious, learn from others and keep an open mind. The more we open ourselves beyond our existing beliefs on what should be, the more we embrace cognitive diversity and therefore grow. On the other hand, each of us also has something to share. Never undermine your knowledge, experience and perspective, it is a gift to those around you as you provide the same opportunity to them as they do for you.
